I always loved the “Sunday Funnies” in classic newspaper comic strips, and I figured to celebrate National Skunk Day to try my hand at a color strip in a traditional six panel funnies format. It is this highly editable format with its 1-2, 3-6 joke structure that is still a default in the newspaper comic industry; and which Calvin & Hobbes creator Bill Watterson famously got into fights with his publisher about. While I do want to experiment with non-traditional Sunday Funnies styles someday, I thought sticking to the classic six panel format for the first one would be fitting.

Speaking of Sunday Funnies, in the “real” newspaper comic world they don’t often correlate with the events in weekly comics due to their higher production lead time. I debated showing Sally with a tail full of fur in honor of that tradition, but decided visually to stick to the shaved off look from the last strip anyways. I swear it will grow back, eventually.
